My research and knowledge workers
Just had a very interesting conversation on how my research could help knowledge workers, e.g., people responsible for producing documentation in large corporations.
I have to say, I am glad that whatever I wrote here helped someone make this association with their work to my research. To be frank, when I invented notitio.us 2 years ago, knowledge workers were among those people I was thinking about.
new knowledge management on Web 3.0 services
I have been extremely busy recently. Probably this is why I was not blogging too much.
But here is the reason:
The last two months I have been building a new software platform for knowledge management on Web 3.0 called digi.me.
It is based on the research of my team (formerly Corrib.org, now KnowledgeHives.com) on semantic digital libraries, collaborative filtering, social networking and semantic web.
digi.me follows and extends certain ideas we have implemented in the research prototype, http://notitio.us/, presented at the Semantic Web Challenge 2007.
The core idea is to use explicit social network of each user and semantic annotations to discover, share and recommend interesting information.
We encourage users to annotate and classify (not just tag) interesting sites; their friends can subscribe to folders representing different topics.
If you know social bookmarking services (like del.icio.us) – think about it as a social bookmarking site on steroids and without letting users to get lost in the cloud of tags.
There are two services which have been set up using digi.me platform already:
- http://www.węzełki.pl/ – a service designed for the Polish users
- http://digi.me/ – a service for the international audience
Both services operate feature English and Polish translation. If you register to one – you gain access to the other one as well.
Both services are in the private beta phase at the moment, but I have a number of invitations to this service to distribute. Please reply to this post.
what I have been up to lately ?
I hear people asking – how are things? I tell ya – things have never been that busy (so you can imagine …).
But it is getting better. There were three projects ahead of me when I was living DERI in December 2008:
- finish furnishing our new apartment and move in
- submit my PhD thesis
- deliver the private beta of the węzełki.pl service – the next generation of notitio.us
I am happy to report that all these tasks have been completed. More or less in the order provided.
And all of them kept me very busy in Jan 2009.
So what’s now?
First of all – improve, disseminate, improve, disseminate, … – all about setting up the service węzełki.pl and the upcoming international version – digi.me.
In the mean time – it is time to incorporate. There are a few roadblocks or rather slowing-bumbs ahead – but it is just a matter of getting right documents to right offices.
But I won’t mind if you will contact me or my upcoming company with cooperation proposal ☺
Will keep ya posted. Be patient ☺
